Miss Colling's Welcome
Year 4 is an exciting year full of new opportunities and experiences. One of the highlights is our weekly swimming lessons, where children of all abilities can build confidence and develop their skills in the water.
In History, we explore the fascinating worlds of the Ancient Egyptians and the Anglo-Saxons. In Geography, we investigate volcanoes, earthquakes and how we can help sustain the world’s resources.
In music, children continue to develop their skills, with the added experience of learning the ukulele for a term. They can also continue with violin or begin learning guitar or flute. In English, pupils enjoy a wide range of writing including poetry, explanation texts, diaries, newspaper reports, biographies, narratives and persuasive writing. This includes writing a biography about Sir David Attenborough, giving them plenty of opportunities to let their creativity shine.
In Maths, we follow a spiral curriculum to build on prior learning, with a strong focus on mastering times tables in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). In Science, children develop their working scientifically skills through hands-on experiments, exploring topics such as the digestive system, sound and electricity.
In Computing, we use micro:bits to code exciting projects such as step counters and night lights.
After school, children can take part in clubs such as hockey and athletics, and in the summer term there is the option to join robotics club.
As children move further through Key Stage 2, we support and encourage them to become increasingly independent – not only in their learning, but also in their personal and social development.
