Our Governors

Our Governors

As stated in the DfE’s Governance Handbook, the responsibilities of the governing body are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Our governors can be a good source of information about the school and may be able to offer parents support and advice if you have particular queries.

If you leave a message and your contact details at the school office then these can be passed on to a governor and they will get back to you. The Chair of Governors can be contacted in the same way.  If you prefer to use email then send your message to: fellsidecommunityprimaryschool@gateshead.gov.uk

Fern Lawton

Parent Governor

My name is Fern Lawton, and I am a Parent Governor at Fellside. I have been a primary school teacher for over 15 years and currently lead English, PE and Science in the school I work in. Teaching phonics and early reading is a passion of mine and I love to see children making progress with their reading and become lifelong readers. I aim to bring both the perspective of a teacher and parent to the role to help support the pupils, staff and wider community of Fellside, so that our children receive the best educational experiences.

Co-opted Governor

My name is Leonie Ducker. My association with Fellside began in May 1971 when I joined the teaching staff. Upon my retirement in 2008 I was asked to join the governors as a community Governor. I offer the Governing Body a wide experience of educational skills and knowledge and offer musical help whenever required. Fellside is a wonderful school and I am proud to be still involved in it.

Mrs Nicola Scott

Staff Governor

Hello, I’m Nicola Scott, and I’m delighted to introduce myself as a Staff Governor. I began working at Fellside in January 2022 and was proud to take on the role of governor in January 2025. I’ve worked with children since 2012, spending nine years in an early years setting before moving into primary education, where I’ve predominantly supported pupils in Year 1 and Year 3. Fellside holds a very special place in my heart as it was my own primary school growing up. I have so many fond memories here, and it truly is a pleasure and a joy to now work in the same place that shaped me. Being able to support, engage, and provide opportunities for every child to achieve feels incredibly meaningful. What I love most about our school is the way we value every single child. We celebrate their successes, nurture their strengths, and hold high ambitions for all. It’s an honour to be part of a community that believes so strongly in helping children reach their full potential.
