Miss Colling's Welcome message

Year 5 is a year full of exciting learning, new experiences and plenty of opportunities to challenge ourselves. We build on the knowledge and skills developed in previous years, helping children to become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners.

In English, pupils will explore a wide range of genres, developing their reading, writing and vocabulary while learning to express their ideas clearly and creatively. In History, we build on our previous learning about the Anglo-Saxons as we explore the Vikings, making links between the two periods and developing our understanding of the past.

Our learning will take us beyond the classroom too. In Geography, children will develop their understanding of maps and the world around them, while in Science they will explore the fascinating topic of Space and discover more about our universe.

We will also have opportunities to learn about different cultures and beliefs, including a special visit to a Hindu temple, helping children to make meaningful connections between their classroom learning and the wider world.

Across the year, we will encourage children to be curious, ask questions, work together and persevere when things are challenging. We want Year 5 to be a year where children not only learn lots, but also grow in confidence, independence and resilience.
