On Tuesday 29th September Year Two went to St. Mary's Heritage Centre, Gateshead to find out about the 'Great Fire' of Newcastle and Gateshead. Richard Stephenson was our guide. We had a great day and learned a lot too! Here are a few snapshots of our visit.
Richard showing us the stained glass window in St. Mary's Church before the fire.
Looking at the site of the warehouse where the fire started.
Standing on the Newcastle side of the river, where the flames from the explosion spread.
In Bessie Surtee's house which didn't burn in the fire.
Examining artefacts. What jobs did these people do?
Beating the carpet!
Thanks to Richard we had a fantastic day!
