The children in Reception class have been learning how to ride their bikes without stabilisers. Alan Barlow, our "Bike-it" officer came into school to help us practise. We had many successes throughout the day.
Here's how to achieve the same success in easy to follow steps:
Step 1 - Lower the seat on your bike so that your feet are flat on the ground.

Step 2 - Take off the pedals from your bike.
Step 3 - Start to scoot along using both feet at the same time (scooting down a slight hill makes it easier!)
Step 4 - When you feel ready, start to lift your feet off the ground as you scoot - "Weee!"
Step 5 - Practise scooting along and lift your feet off the ground more and more - you're getting your balance as you scoot along!
Step 6 - When you're scooting happily, put your pedals back on and have a go at pedalling instead of scooting. You may need a bit of help to get started!
Step 7 - Once you have started pedalling, remember to keep going!
We had a great time learning how to ride our two-wheeler bikes.
Thank you, Alan for helping us.
Look out for us in the parks and cycle paths around Whickham to see how well we all did!
