On Tuesday 4th November Year Six travelled back in time to 1939. They had the opportunity to experience a little of the life of an evacuee from World War Two when they visited Home Farm at Beamish Open Air Museum. They carried out a variety of jobs at the farm in the hope that the farmer would let them stay there during the evacuation.
Cleaning shoes!
Making cottage cheese.
Making mats.
Many thanks to all the staff at Beamish who made the evacuation possible and ensured the children all had a great time.
Watch this space for more photographs of the evacuees.

I think it was fun to experience what it was like for children in World War Two and it was definitely worth dressing up in old-fashioned clothes! I felt like i had really gone back in time! We had to polish shoes, Make proggy mats, make cottage cheese, clean the mud of turnips, churn butter, preserve and pickle eggs, stuff a mattress with straw and make a scarecrow all in one day!

Hello everybody,
What wonderful photographs.
Once again Fellside evacuees really impressed me as well as their host family.
Mr. Woolley really enjoyed eating the pickled eggs.
I hope that we'll meet again!
With Kind Regards,
