Reception class had a fantastic time on Thursday 7th February celebrating Chinese New Year.
We tried different creative activities and worked with many parents during the day.

We had great fun making rat puppets - 2008 is the year of the rat!

There were some tricky bits to stick together.
Thankfully we had lots of help from our mums and dads!

We made a huge collage of a Chinese dragon.

We had to work together as a team to stick red and gold paper on the dragon's body.

We made paper lanterns.

We had to cut very carefully along the lines and then we stuck on sequins to make our lanterns sparkly.

We made red envelopes with Chinese money in them.
At Chinese New Year children receive red envelopes with money inside them as a gift.

Mrs Nevin made some Chinese rice. It had peas and spring onions in it - it was lovely!
Some of us asked for seconds!

We tried some Chinese writing. It uses characters instead of letters.
We had to remember to write from the top to the bottom of the page instead of from left to right.

We made a Chinese dragon and danced to drums and bells - just like the dragon that danced along Stowell Street in Newcastle.
Thank you to all the parents who came in to our class to help our Chinese celebrations go so well. We had a great day and learned so much about New Year in a different culture.
