What a fantastic day! Today Year Six travelled back in time and became evacuees. The children and staff dressed in costume from the 1940's and were evacuated to Home Farm at Beamish Museum. We had the opportunity to work on the farm as children would have done during the Second World War and experience a little of the life of an evacuee. A huge thanks to the Richard Stevenson and Katy Swainston from the museum for organising the activities and bringing history to life.

Hi everyone!
It was lovely to see you all at Beamish, and thank you so much for agreeing to be the very first class to do the activity about evacuees.
The comments made in the interviews afterwards were excellent and really helpful to Katy and myself as well as Beamish.
I hope that you really felt like evacuees. Do you think that working, feeling and acting like real evacuees has helped your schoolwork?
If I were really a 1939 farmer I would welcome you all with open arms!
Thanks, Fellside, and we'll meet again (don't know where, don't know when...)

Hello evacuees,
You look great on the photographs. I have found homes for many more evacuees now, what a tough job it is being a Billeting Officer!
Please feel free to add any photos from the CD to your website, just mention that they are from us...
Best wishes,
Katy xxx
