Welcome to Nursery

A warm welcome to you and your child.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for making Lynn and Anna so welcome when they visited you in your home. Experience has shown that this opportunity of making links with home and nursery is so valuable in helping your child settle quickly into nursery.

Welcome to Reception

The children have now all settled happily into school and are adapting well to our class routines.
If you have any queries or questions I really hope you won’t hesitate to come in and discuss them with me or Mrs Nevin.
We are looking forward to working together as a team of teacher, parents and most importantly children to create an exciting, stimulating and memorable start to your child’s time at Fellside.

Welcome to Year Two

Welcome to Year Two!

Your children are currently settling well into their new class and I am sure we can look forward to an enjoyable and productive year together.
You may be aware that children have for many years taken SATs at the end of Year Two. The government reviewed this a couple of years ago and introduced different arrangements for KS1 assessment. I’ll make sure you are fully informed of this nearer the time.
Please remember the door is always open if you need to discuss anything with me.

School Clubs

Here is the current timetable for school clubs we have running this term - this can be subject to change due to teachers commitments. We endeavour to give as much notice as possible, usually messages are sent home with children.

Welcome to Year One

Your children have now completed the Foundation Stage and have begun to work on the Key Stage One National Curriculum including Literacy and Numeracy hours. They are working in five colour groups.
In the first weeks of Year One your child may be tired due to the amount of ‘work’ expected of them each day. You can be sure I’ll endeavour to ensure a smooth transition to Key Stage One and they’ll soon be used to the changes. The door is always open should you need to talk to me.

Welcome to Year Five

I would like to welcome your child to Year 5. We have already made personal pledges for the year ahead and have decided how best to organise our positive learning environment. Our classroom is adjacent to Year 6 and the children are learning what it means to be an older child at Fellside.
I am looking forward to the term ahead with such a fantastic group of mature and able young people. Please feel free to get in touch should you have any issues throughout the school year –my door is always open!

Welcome to Year Three

Welcome to Year 3. Although the move from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two is made easier because we are one school, the transition is nevertheless quite a big step. There are new routines to establish and for the first term the children may find the day seems very very long, especially because we don’t break for lunch until 12.15 and we have no afternoon playtime. I hope that your child will soon feel very much ‘at home’ in Year 3.
So far the class have been a delight – a super set of enthusiastic and eager pupils who seem to have settled alongside the older students quite naturally.
I do wish your child has a happy and successful time in Year 3 and great fun learning.

Fellside Matters - Issue 41

By the time you receive this our newly refurbished kitchen should be fully operational giving Karen Watson and her team the opportunity to make our school meals even better.

This work has caused huge disruption to our kitchen and cleaning staff, though as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, little impact on the children.

It is worth considering the work that those ‘behind the scenes’ do to ensure the school functions so efficiently. Particular thanks over the past two weeks to Karen and Denise in the kitchens and Bob and Pat our cleaners for the extra work incurred. Our relief caretaker, Chris, has not only coped with the kitchen since his arrival two weeks ago, but was also on hand to safeguard many of Mrs Bowron’s resources as her classroom flooded in a torrential downpour last Thursday evening.

On behalf of everyone at Fellside, thanks to these people.

Welcome to Year Four

It is a real pleasure to welcome your child into my class. I am delighted at how quickly the class, no longer the youngest in KS2, have settled into a good hardworking mode. I am sure this will continue.

During Y4 they will be taught a cursive style of writing which they should be fully using by next July.

I am looking forward to a productive year, which will see your child making very good progress.

Welcome to Year Six

Can you believe your children are now at the start of their final year at Fellside Primary? It seems like only yesterday that you were bringing them for their first day at school. Well, I’m sure they’ll enjoy Y6 in spite of the inevitable SATs in May (no holidays please!). As well as being the oldest pupils in school with the privileges and responsibilities this brings, there are also a lot of enjoyable things to look forward to, including Cycling Proficiency training and a residential visit . One thing is certain, we will be very busy and the time will fly… I am sure you will support our efforts this year in helping your child to develop their independence and organisational skills, and to achieve their full potential.

School Discipline and Behaviour Policy

The school aims:-

To create a positive ethos within the school based on a sense of community and shared values.

To promote high standards of behaviour among staff, pupils and parents.

To encourage staff to recognise and praise good behaviour.

To make distinctions between minor and more serious misbehaviour and respond accordingly.

To use personal and social education as a means of promoting mutual respect, self discipline and social responsibility.

It is a strength of the school that all staff take corporate responsibility for ensuring that pupils behave in a desirable manner and that when necessary are reminded of this with a non confrontational approach.

Inclusion Policy

All children have a right to be educated with their peer group. At Fellside Community Primary School, we are fully committed to promoting inclusion of all children, whatever their age, ability, gender, race or background. We believe that the teaching and learning, achievements, attitudes and well-being of every child in the school is important.

We aim to provide equal opportunities for all groups of children, including those with diverse needs. Our main objective is to safeguard the interests of all children and to ensure they achieve their full potential. All children should have the opportunity to join with their peers in the curriculum and life of the school. We aim to pay particular attention to the provision for, and the achievement of, ‘different groups’ within the school, providing extra resources and support, where possible.

At our school, we are fully committed to inclusion; however, we are aware that in exceptional circumstances, the needs of the individual child might not be met or that the inclusion of the child in mainstream education "is incompatible with the efficient education of other children."
